Bengals dodge OT with late FG for 9-6 win

The Cincinnati Bengals rested 20 of their 22 starters Thursday night in the preseason finale at Indianapolis, but the backups almost got even more work than expected.

Tom Obarski enabled the Bengals to avoid their first preseason overtime contest since 2001 by kicking a 28-yard field goal with 2 minutes and 49 seconds remaining to lift the team to a 9-6 victory.

Bengals make moves to get to 75-man limit

The Bengals made three roster moves today to get to the 75-man limit ahead of the 4 p.m. deadline.

The team placed tackle and first-round draft pick Cedric Ogbuehi on the Reserve/Non-Football Injury list and put linebacker Sean Porter on the Reserve/Physically Unable to Perform list. That means both players will miss at least the first six games of the regular season.

Bengals waive another two players

A few hours after releasing seven players, the Bengals cut two more Monday afternoon.

The team released wide receiver Tevin Reese and fullback Mark Weisman.

Weisman was let go under the Waived/Injured designation, which means if he clears waivers he will be added to the team’s Reserve/Injured list for the 2015 season.

The Bengals will need to cut another three players to get to the 75-man limit by 4 p.m. Tuesday.

The Bengals got a jump on Tuesday’s deadline to trim the roster to 75 players by release seven players today.

Among those let go were four veterans in wide receiver Denarius Moore, linebacker Nico Johnson, defensive end Sam Montgomery and defensive tackle Kwame Geathers.

The team also waived three college free agents in tight end John Peters, guard Chris Jasperse and wide receiver Desmond Lawrence.

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton left Saturday night’s preseason game against the Chicago Bears with a first-quarter neck injury.

Dalton led the Bengals on a 16-play, 77-yard touchdown drive to open the game. Dalton scored on a 1-yard plunge on fourth and goal. It was his third rush of the game after escaping the pocket for an 8-yard gain and picking up 7 yards on a read option.
