One day after offensive coordinator Hue Jackson hinted at a change a running back, Giovani Bernard confirmed the decision Thursday in the locker room.
“We’re starting Jeremy,” Bernard said. “I’ve just got to go with that and see where it goes from there. They’ll fill me in at certain times in the game.”
Based on the recent production of both backs, the move makes sense.
Hill was his most effective in the three games Bernard missed with hip and clavicle injuries. Hill carried 24 times for 154 yards and two touchdowns in a 33-23 victory against Jacksonville, and two weeks later he rushed 27 times for 152 yards at New Orleans.
In the three games since Bernard has returned,he has just 33 carries for 111 yards (3.4), while Hill has rushed 39 times for 173 yards (4.4).
Bernard didn’t seem happy about the decision, but he never questioned it.
“I think it was just a matter of what’s best for the team,” he said. “I was just want to win. At the end of the day, that’s all I care about is winning and being on this team and helping this team win.”
